Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad
Professor and Head of the Department
Prof. Dr. Azad is a distinguished educator with over 17 years of experience in teaching and research across undergraduate and postgraduate levels at various prestigious national and international institutions. Born in 1985 to Nur Mohammad and Saleha Nur, he is the youngest of four siblings. Prof. Azad completed his BBA and MBA from the International Islamic University of Chittagong (IIUC) before pursuing a second Master’s in International Finance and Banking from the University of Bedfordshire, UK. He later earned his PhD from the University of Malaya, Malaysia.Prof. Azad’s professional journey began in 2006 at Standard Chartered Bank, transitioning to academia the following year when he was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at IIUC. In 2017, he joined the Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST), Comilla, where he served as the Head of the Department of Business Administration (DBA) and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies. During his tenure at BAIUST, he made significant contributions as a member of the Academic Council, the Planning, Development, Research, and Finance Committee, and also played a pivotal role in shaping the BAIUST Journal and Scholarship policies.Prof. Azad’s research interests lie in the fields of optimization, risk management, and the sustainability of the financial sector. He has published over 96 research articles in internationally renowned Web of Science indexed journals, with his work featured in prestigious publications such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, Research in International Business and Finance, the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics.His outstanding academic contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including IIUC Merit Scholarships, the Chancellor Award, the Vice-Chancellor Award, the University of Bedfordshire Merit Scholarship, and the Bright Spark Scholarship for PhD. In recognition of his excellence in teaching, he received the Best Professor of Business Award from CMO Asia, as well as honors from the World HRD Congress and the South Asian Partnership Summit. He was also named Best Student of IIUC-DC in 2008.Currently, Prof. Azad serves as an editor for seven prestigious scholarly journals. His passion for education and research is driven by his unwavering dedication to the betterment of his students, his nation, and humanity.
